During his career, he played for Gorda Rustavi, Dinamo Tbilisi, Alania Vladikavkaz and three German clubs: SC Freiburg, Schalke 04 and Hertha BSC. Kobiashvili is the third-most-capped player for the Georgian national team, earning 100 caps for his home country. In October 2015, Kobiashvili was elected president of the Georgian Football Federation.
